What is it used for?
CIPRO can be used together with other antibiotics (combination therapy) in the treatment of patients with low white blood cell count (neutropenia) and fever thought to be caused by bacterial infection.
In case of a severe infection or an infection caused by more than one type of bacteria, additional antibiotic treatment may be applied in addition to CIPRO.
Fluoroquinolones, including CIPRO, should not be used in acute bacterial exacerbations of chronic bronchitis and uncomplicated urinary tract infections in the presence of alternative treatment options due to the risk of serious side effects.
In these indications, it can be used when other treatment options have failed.
CIPRO can only be used in the treatment of infections that are proven or seriously suspected to be caused by susceptible bacteria.
