HEPAZEC contains rifaximin as the active ingredient. HEPAZEC is an antibiotic that eliminates bacteria that settle in the intestine and cause hepatic encephalopathy. Hepatic encephalopathy; In sudden or chronic liver failure, harmful substances that the liver cannot clear are carried to the brain through the blood and cause disorders such as mental tension, aggression, confusion, muscle problems, difficulty in speaking and coma. HEPAZEC is used to reduce the recurrence of significant episodes of hepatic encephalopathy in adults with liver disease. It is used in the treatment of chronic gastrointestinal disorders characterized by abdominal pain, bloating, and changes in bowel regularity, with predominance of diarrhea.

HEPAZEC can be used alone or in combination with a bowel softener medicine, more commonly containing lactulose.

The recommended dose for HEPAZEC 550 mg film-coated tablets is two tablets per day. After 6 months of use, your doctor will evaluate you whether to continue treatment or not.

HEPAZEC 550 mg film-coated tablet is used three times a day for 14 days in the treatment of chronic gastrointestinal disorders characterized by diarrhea, mainly abdominal pain, swelling and changes in bowel order. If your symptoms recur, your doctor may repeat your treatment.

HEPAZEC is taken orally with a glass of water.
