What is it used for?
HAVRIX PEDIATRIC is used to prevent hepatitis A disease in children and adolescents between the ages of 1-15 (15 years included). The vaccine works by causing the body to create its own protection system (antibodies) against this disease. It takes 2-4 weeks for protective antibodies against hepatitis A to form.
Hepatitis A is an infectious disease that can affect the liver. This disease is caused by the hepatitis A virus. Hepatitis A virus can be transmitted from person to person through food, drink or swimming in water contaminated with wastewater. Hepatitis A symptoms begin to appear within 3-6 weeks after contact with the virus. These symptoms are nausea, fever, aches and pains. After a few days, yellowing of the white parts of the eyes and skin (jaundice) may occur. The severity and type of symptoms may vary. Jaundice may not be observed in young children. Many individuals can fully recover; However, this disease is serious enough to make individuals sick for about 1 month.
Vaccination is the best way to protect against this disease. None of the ingredients in the vaccine are contagious.
Getting this vaccine only protects against hepatitis A. It is ineffective against other types of hepatitis viruses and other diseases that cause liver inflammation.
HAVRIX PEDIATRIC is presented in a ready-to-use glass syringe (0.5 mL) containing a suspension for injection.
