What is it used for?

In patients with branch retinal vein occlusion (RVDO); A blockage occurs in one or more branches of the main blood vessels that carry blood away from the retina. In response to this situation, VEGF levels increase, causing fluid leakage into the retina and resulting macular edema.

In patients with central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO), a blockage occurs in the main blood vessel that carries blood away from the retina. In response to this situation, VEGF levels increase, causing fluid leakage into the retina and resulting swelling in the macula (macular degeneration); This is called macular edema (swelling in the back of the eye). When the macula swells with fluid, central vision becomes blurred.

Diabetic macular edema (DME) is retinal swelling that occurs in diabetic patients due to fluid leakage from blood vessels within the macula. The macula is the part of the retina responsible for good vision. When the macula swells with fluid, central vision becomes blurred.

Aflibercept has been shown to reduce the formation of abnormal new blood vessels in the eye and the amount of fluid and blood leaking into the retina. Aflibercept helps prevent the progression of vision loss associated with wet AMD, CRVO, RVDO, DME and myopic CNV, and provides improvement in vision loss in many patients.

How to use?

Instructions for proper use and dosage/frequency of administration

The recommended dose is 2 mg aflibercept (0.05 mL).

In patients with wet AMD, the treatment is recommended to be administered as three consecutive doses, a single injection once a month, followed by a single injection every two months.

At your physician’s discretion regarding visual and/or anatomical results, your treatment interval may be maintained at two months or extended using a treat-and-extend dosing regimen, in which injection intervals are increased in 2- or 4-week increments to maintain stable visual and/or anatomical results.

If your condition worsens, injection intervals may be shortened.
