MELANDA® RAPID ORAL DISSOLVABLE TABLET 20 mg

Active Ingredient: Each orally disintegrating tablet contains 20 mg memantine hydrochloride, equivalent to 16.62 mg memantine.

Excipients: Mannitol, microcrystalline cellulose, crospovidone, tartaric acid, sucralose, masking flavor, mixed fruit flavor, colloidal silicon dioxide, talc, stearic acid, red iron oxide (E172)

MELANDA® RAPID is presented in a blister pack containing 28 orally dispersible tablets. Orally disintegrating tablets are dark pink, round, flat tablets with beveled edges.

MELANDA® RAPID is in the group of drugs used against dementia.

Memory loss seen in Alzheimer’s disease occurs due to the disruption of message signals in the brain. There are formations called NMDA-receptors in the brain. These formations play a role in nerve stimulation, which is important for learning and remembering. MELANDA® RAPID belongs to a group of medicines called NMDA receptor antagonists and acts on NMDA receptors, improving nerve impulses and memory. Due to this effect, MELANDA® RAPID is used in the treatment of moderate and severe stage Alzheimer’s disease.

Instructions for proper use and dosage/frequency of administration

Always take MELANDA® RAPID as recommended by your doctor. When in doubt, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

The recommended dose of MELANDA® RAPID for adults and the elderly is 20 mg once a day. To reduce the risk of side effects, this dose is achieved by gradually increasing the dose with the following daily treatment schedule.

Treatment is started with a daily dose of 5 mg and continued for one week. This dose is increased by 5 mg every week to reach the recommended maintenance dose. That is, 10 mg per day is used in the second week and 15 mg per day in the third week. From the beginning of the fourth week, treatment is continued with the recommended maintenance dose of 20 mg once a day.

Continue taking MELANDA® RAPID as long as it benefits you. Your treatment should be evaluated by your doctor at regular intervals.

Like all medicines, side effects may occur in people sensitive to the ingredients contained in MELANDA® RAPID.

In general, observed side effects were mild to moderate.

Headache, drowsiness, constipation, increased liver function tests, dizziness, balance disorders, shortness of breath, high blood pressure and hypersensitivity.

Uncommon (affects 1 to 10 people in 1000)

Fatigue, fungal infections, confusion, hallucinations, vomiting, gait abnormality, heart failure and venous blood clots (thrombosis/thromboembolism).
