PROSCAR is presented in a blister pack containing 28 film-coated tablets.

PROSCAR is a blue, apple-shaped, film-coated tablet marked MSD 72 on one side and PROSCAR on the other. Each film-coated tablet contains 5 mg finasteride.

PROSCAR contains a medicine called finasteride. PROSCAR belongs to a group of medicines known as 5-alpha reductase inhibitors.

PROSCAR is used to treat benign prostate gland enlargement (benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH). This disease occurs only in men. PROSCAR shrinks the enlarged prostate gland in men. Your prostate gland is located under your bladder. It produces the fluid found in semen. An enlarged prostate gland can lead to a condition called “prostatic hyperplasia” (BPH).

If you have BPH, it means that your prostate gland is enlarged. It can put pressure on the tube through which urine passes as it leaves the body.

Instructions for proper use and dosage/frequency of administration

PROSCAR should not be used in children.

No dose adjustment is required in the elderly.

No special dose adjustment is required in patients with renal impairment. Caution should be exercised when PROSCAR is administered to patients with hepatic impairment.

If you have the impression that the effect of PROSCAR is too strong or weak, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.

Like all medicines, PROSCAR can cause side effects, but not everyone gets side effects.
