Active Ingredient: Each film-coated tablet contains 10 mg memantine hydrochloride, equivalent to 8.31 mg memantine.

Excipients: Microcrystalline cellulose, talc, colloidal silicon dioxide, lactose monohydrate (sourced from cow’s milk), magnesium stearate, polyvinyl alcohol, polyethylene glycol, methacrylic acid copolymer, polysorbate 80, sodium bicarbonate.

MELANDA® is presented in blister packaging containing 50 and 100 film-coated tablets. The tablets are white-almost white, scored on both sides, and are in the form of oblong, biconvex film-coated tablets that taper towards the middle.

MELANDA® is in the group of drugs used against dementia.

Memory loss seen in Alzheimer’s disease occurs due to the disruption of message signals in the brain. There are formations called NMDA-receptors in the brain. These formations play a role in nerve stimulation, which is important for learning and remembering. MELANDA® belongs to a group of medicines called NMDA receptor antagonists and acts on NMDA receptors, improving nerve impulses and memory. Due to this effect, MELANDA® is used in the treatment of moderate and severe stage Alzheimer’s disease.

Instructions for proper use and dosage/frequency of administration

Always take MELANDA® as recommended by your doctor. When in doubt, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

The recommended dose of MELANDA® for adults and the elderly is 20 mg (1 x 2 tablets) once a day. To reduce the risk of side effects, this dose is achieved by gradually increasing it with the following daily treatment schedule:

Treatment starts with a daily dose of 5 mg, that is, half a tablet (1/2 tablet) and continues for a week. The second week uses 10 mg per day (one tablet once a day) and the third week 15 mg per day (one and a half tablets once a day).

From the fourth week, treatment is continued with the recommended maintenance dose of 20 mg once a day (2 tablets once a day).

Like all medicines, side effects may occur in people sensitive to the ingredients contained in MELANDA®.

In general, observed side effects were mild to moderate.
